Dear Fed Friends,

We had a very interesting meeting Thursday night with the Parking Department staff and their consultant.  As you may know, they have been charged by the City Council to update the old 2012 Parking Permit ordinance.   

The long and the short of it was a consensus among attendees that the City needed to define the parking problem, and consider many solutions, not necessarily a pay for usage parking permit program.  We learned from the consultant that per state law, a voluntary program (say majority of neighbors in neighborhood petition for a parking permit) adjoining neighborhoods can join the first neighborhood were they also to petition.  Complications ensue.  Attendees asked the City not issue a survey about what a parking permit program might look at until they define the problem and cull residents' constructive suggestions about the problem.

Topic: How can California municipalities and counties form alliances to reform state housing policies allowing for affordable and increased housing stock without compromising essential priorities of municipalities? Co-sponsored with Point San Pedro Road Coalition.

Customer Appreciation Day is Sunday, September 27th, 2026

Over 700 people and a record number of community organizations joined Marin Sanitary Service in 2025 for our annual Customer Appreciation Day. Let’s Do It Again in 2026!

Would you and your colleagues be interested in participating in Marin Sanitary Service’s Customer Appreciation Day on Sunday, September 27, 2026 from 9am-2pm at our Recycling Center located at 535 Jacoby St. in San Rafael?

This event will take place in our covered, open-air Recycling Center where we will have a tabling area set-up for community organizations to interact with guests that stop-by throughout the day. Our Customer Appreciation Day is a fun and educational event for attendees to pick-up free compost, go on a tour of our facilities and engage with local organizations taking measures to reduce waste in Marin.  

The Recycled Orchestra of Caterua will perform again this year!  Learn more about last year's event @ MSS Community & Events. 

MSS will have 8-foot tables, chairs, and tablecloths available for all participating organizations to utilize.   If you would like to offer giveaways, we encourage you to consider environmentally friendly alternatives, such as reusable items, products made from recycled or natural materials to minimize waste. A bagel & coffee breakfast and lunch will be provided for all those working the event.

Please let me know if you or anyone on your team is interested in participating in this event by Wednesday, July 30th or sooner so we can prepare for your involvement accordingly (Logo Image files: JPG or PNG are due August 4th or sooner). Details on lunch, parking, load-in /load-out and day-of logistics will be included in a follow-up email once we confirm your participation.

Hello San Rafael Neighborhood and Homeowners Association representatives,We wanted to reach out to share an opportunity that might be of interest to your communities. The City is in the early stages of planning for a new, voter-approved Library and Community Center at Albert Park and we have just launched a survey to understand residents’ priorities for the facility. The survey will be open through Summer 2026 and we are hoping to hear from as many people in the community as possible.

Can you help spread the word to your neighborhoods? More information on the survey and the project is provided below and in the attached flyers (English and Spanish).
